VISITORS!!
Last week Peter hosted a super fab group of students from Greenwood College School for an afternoon of modern Greek fun!
Back in the day, the ”gym” was the social and intellectual heart of Hellenistic civiliaztion. Males, young and old, would gather there to participate in philosophical and athletic pursuits. Back then, the motto “healthy mind, healthy body” was a central tenet of life in ancient Greece. A typical day would see young men discussing the nature of souls with philosophers such as Plato and Aristotle one moment, then partaking in physical events to maintain their greek god-like physiques the next. Activities such as boxing, leaping, Quoits (discus) and javelin throwing, wrestling and foot racing…not a treadmill or pec deck in sight.
Last week this “gym” was re-created with our modern day philosopher and greek-god, Peter! Students participated in a “healthy mind, healthy body” discussion before participating in modern-day physique events. Leaping, throwing, and foot racing were just some of the ancient games students competed in. And an added bonus to modern Greece…girls play in the gym too!
A big thanks to the lovely Miss Thornton and her awesome class for making learning fun!
